"Alive" meets
"The Abominable Snowman" when an
American football team crashes with their plane
in the Himalayan mountains. With no rescue in sight,
time is running out for the poor students, and to
make things worse, a group of yeti's have just
spotted them and they are starving for a good meal.

What a ridonculous plot. Yeti can be described as
the low-budget DTV remake of "Alive" only with a
killer yeti thrown in for good measure. Since the
movie's clearly aimed at the teen-crowd, most people
won't even realize what a rip-off this is but for
once I don't really mind because Yeti is just a
whole lot of fun. After countless of awful sasquatch
films, we finally get a horror flick about the yeti.
Well maybe I shouldn't say finally because I don't
think anyone really craved for a killer yeti flick,
either way, it's nice to see a new creature attacking
helpless, dumb teens.
A bunch of jocks and their girlfriends are flying
above the Himalayan mountains when the plane crashes.
With no help in sight, the teens soon become desperate
for food and start to eat their classmates who died
in the crash (I told you it was a rip-off). Anyway,
it appears that they're not the only ones starving
as a giant yeti shows up to join the party, but he's
more in the mood for living prey. Yeti certainly
isn't a masterpiece but we have to keep in mind that
this is a Sci-Fi channel original so I didn't have
the highest of expectations for this film. Perhaps
that's why I enjoyed it as much as I did.
What really surprised me about Yeti was the cast.
Unlike most Sci-Fi originals, this actually had a
very talented cast and many recognizable face such
as Carly Pope (Popular, Beneath, The Glass House),
Crystal Low (Final Destination 3, Black Christmas,
Wrong Turn 2) and Ona Grauer (Alone In The Dark,
House Of The Dead). Furthermore, the special effects
were surprisingly good for a Sci-Fi original and
the Yeti wasn't CGI-made (not for most of the time
anyway) which was highly appreciated. Naturally
there were also a couple of question marks along the
way (like why would the rangers at a rescue station
in Nepal be American?) but with movies like that
you can't really focus on logics because that's not
what these movies are about.
Creature features are simply about having a good time
because for most of the time they're utterly campy
and we've learned to love them for it. Yeti won't
impress the mainstream audience but for horror fans
who have watched countless of mind-numbingly bad
creature features, it's actually a pretty pleasant
movie. Don't expect a lot from it and you'll end
up enjoying it quite a bit I think. I know I did.

Some minor gore such as a severed arm.

Nothing worth mentioning.

Moderately entertaining creature feature which is
definitely one of those movies that you can watch
when you're hung-over; you won't miss anything if
you go to the bathroom to throw up, it doesn't
matter if you doze off for 5 minutes, you don't
have to use your brain while watching it and you'll
end up feeling just a little bit better when the
movie's finally over. In other words, a decent flick
as long as you don't have high expectations.
