The zero boys is a group of friends who battle in a
survival game together and after a good fight they
decide to head out to the forest to chill out. When
it starts to rain they decide to seek cover in an
abandoned house, what they don't know is that the
house is inhabited by a group of deranged killers.
Soon enough the issue of staying alive is no longer
a game and they have to run for their lives.

Here's a typical example of bad marketing for you.
By the looks of the cover, the title and the plot
description on the back of the cover, no one would
ever suspect this to be a slasher flick. Luckily for
me, a friend suggested that I should check this out
and man was that a good suggestion. The Zero Boys
actually turned out to be a brilliant and very eerie
backwoods slasher, definitely one of the best ones
of its kind. The story is incredibly grabbing and
sucks you in right from the start. It actually reminds
you a little of the hit movie "Saw" so maybe this
was an inspiration source.

The Zero Boys is one of the few movies that actually
draws profit from the fact that it's too dark.
I mean, it's never nice when you can't see anything
but the weak light from the flashlights and the
lightning (it's a thunderstorm through 80% of the
movie) is just light enough to let us see what's
going on and it's just dark enough to keep the
atmosphere. It's not often that you stumble on to a
slasher flick which actually tries to creep you out
rather than just having a killer offing a bunch of
teens for no apparent reason. This is definitely
no Friday the 13th rip-off. The killers really seem
deranged and the story never feels ludicrous.

As you might have understood, the photography is
flawless and the directing is absolutely stunning.
Everything about this movie is really something
special which creates the perfect atmosphere. The
acting is also pretty good, even though it's one
of the less good things about the movie but the
acting is still better than I had expected. My
only issue with the movie is the ending which was
a complete let down. The entire movie builds up
for a great climax but then all of a sudden it just
ends, we never get to know what happened to the
survivors and it just felt as if it was a bit rushed.

All in all, The Zero Boys is still a brilliant
slasher flick which seems to have been forgotten by
the slasher audience. Probably due to bad marketing
though, I would never have picked this up if a
friend hadn't recommended it to me. If you like
backwoods slashers with a great and creepy
atmosphere, I strongly recommend that you check
this one out!

The Zero Boys isn't really filled with gore. The
goriest things we get are an arrow through ones
stomach and one guy gets impaled on some sharp
sticks. This didn't need the gore though.

I wasn't too happy with the cheesy 80s synth-pop
music but they've nailed the atmospheric score.

Slasher fans, this is the backwoods slasher we've
all been waiting for, or at least the backwoods
slasher that we didn't know of. The Zero Boys is
a brilliant slasher flick with a great, creepy
atmosphere and I strongly recommend this flick.
